**Who can use this:** Agency owner, Finance manager, Agency manager, Fleet manager
**In the app:** Fleet › Car management › Car insurance fees

**Updated on:** 2026-10-25

Insurance fees are what the customer **pays** to be covered while renting a given car. They are revenue for the agency. They are separate from the [insurance policy](https://docs.drivego.thesuperplatform.com/en/guides/agency/insurance) the agency pays its insurer. Every car has one insurance included by default and, if you wish, upgrades the customer can choose at step 3.5 of the booking.

## Steps

1. Open **Fleet**, choose a car, then **Car insurance fees**.
2. At the top, the **Active insurance** block shows the agency policy that covers the car.
3. Below, each fee charged to the customer appears as a card. Tap **Add a fee**.
4. Fill in the form: name, type, amount, calculation, customers concerned, rental length, included or upgrade.
5. Read the preview under the form, for example "For a 3-day individual rental this adds MAD 45.00", then tap **Save**.
6. Use **Edit**, **Enable** or **Disable** on a card to change it, and **Renew cover** when the policy reaches its end date.

## The four calculations

| Calculation | Amount added to the booking |
|---|---|
| Per day | Amount × number of rental days |
| Fixed per booking | Amount, once |
| Percentage of booking | Rental price after discounts × amount ÷ 100 |
| Included | 0, shown as "Included" in the price breakdown, never hidden |

Example: a Standard fee at MAD 12.00 per day adds MAD 36.00 to a 3-day rental. A 10 % fee on a rental of MAD 900.00 after discounts adds MAD 90.00. The detailed calculations are in [Insurance: policies and fees](https://docs.drivego.thesuperplatform.com/en/reference/insurance).

A fee applies to a booking only if it is active, the pickup date is within its validity dates, the customer type matches and the rental length is within the band.

## Validation rules

- Only one active **included by default** insurance per car.
- A fee cannot be both **included by default** and an **upgrade**.
- For a **percentage of booking**, the amount must be between 0 and 100.
- The minimum length cannot exceed the maximum length.

## What the customer sees

At step 3.5 of the booking, the customer sees the included insurance and the upgrades that apply to their rental, with their total already calculated. Upgrades replace each other: choosing one replaces the previous one. Add-ons such as GPS or a child seat add up. See [Book a car](https://docs.drivego.thesuperplatform.com/en/guides/customer/booking).

## What happens next

When the car is booked, the chosen insurance becomes a line on the rental invoice and counts in the "insurance" revenue in [Finance](https://docs.drivego.thesuperplatform.com/en/guides/agency/finance).

## Troubleshooting

| Situation | Cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "Some details are invalid. Fix the highlighted fields." | A rule is broken, for example two active included insurances. | Disable the old included insurance or untick one of the two boxes. |
| The preview adds MAD 0.00 | The fee is Included, or it does not apply to 3 days or to the preview's customer type. | Check the calculation, the length band and the customers concerned. |
| The cover does not appear to the customer | The fee is disabled, outside its dates, or not ticked as **Upgrade**. | Enable it and check its dates and length band. |
| The screen footer is empty | No active policy covers the car, or your role cannot see the premium. | Add the car to a policy in [Insurance policies](https://docs.drivego.thesuperplatform.com/en/guides/agency/insurance). |
