# Book a car

> Find a car, then book it in four steps: dates and location, price review, details and documents, add-ons and insurance, then confirmation. Every field explained.

You book from a car's page. A step indicator guides you from the pickup date to the confirmation, with a half step 3.5 for add-ons and insurance. The price breakdown stays visible at every step: nothing is added at the end.

## Before you start

- You have an individual customer account and you are signed in. Without an account you can go through every step, but the confirmation screen asks you to sign in. See [Create an account](https://docs.drivego.thesuperplatform.com/en/getting-started/create-account).
- Keep your driving licence at hand: step 3 asks for its number and expiry date.
- Only cars from verified agencies appear. A car with no price for the requested duration is not offered.

## Steps

1. In **Search**, choose a city and your dates, then open a car.
2. On the car page, tap **Book**.
3. **Step 1, Dates and location.** Check the dates, times and pickup location, then tap **Continue**.
4. **Step 2, Price review.** Read the price breakdown line by line, then tap **Continue**.
5. **Step 3, Details and documents.** Fill in your contact details and licence, then tap **Continue**.
6. **Step 3.5, Add-ons and insurance.** Choose a higher insurance cover if you wish, and your add-ons.
7. **Step 4, Confirmation.** Read the summary and tap **Confirm booking**.
8. The **Booking confirmed** screen shows your booking code, for example `BK-240520-7821`, and offers to turn on Face ID or fingerprint, then notifications.

## Find the car

**Results and filters**

**After the action:** **Book** opens step 1 with this car and the dates of your search.

## Step 1, Dates and location

**After you save:** **Continue** works out the price for your dates. If the return date is before the pickup date, the message "The return date must be after the pickup date." appears.

> **Duration is counted in whole days**
>
> DriveGo counts one day per started 24 hours. A pickup on Monday at 10:00 and a return on Wednesday at 11:00 make 3 days charged.

## Step 2, Price review

**After the action:** nothing is booked yet. The price is frozen at confirmation.

The **deposit** is not agency revenue: it is given back to you, which is why it sits under the total. The order in which the price is chosen is explained in [the pricing engine](https://docs.drivego.thesuperplatform.com/en/reference/pricing-engine).

## Step 3, Details and documents

**After you save:** your details and licence come from your profile and are updated for your next bookings. Fields are checked when you leave them; **Continue** stays greyed out, with the reason, while a required field is missing.

## Step 3.5, Add-ons and insurance

**After you save:** add-ons add up; the insurance cover is single. Only the add-ons offered by the agency appear, with how they are charged (per day or once per booking).

## Step 4, Confirmation

**After the action:** without an account, the "Sign in to continue" sheet opens. Signed in, the **Booking confirmed** screen shows your booking code.

## What happens next

- **If the agency confirms automatically**, your booking is Confirmed straight away: the invoice is created and the agency prepares the pickup.
- **Otherwise** it is Pending: the car is held for your dates while the agency approves. You are told as soon as it is confirmed.
- The price is **frozen** when you book. If the agency changes its prices later, your amount does not change.
- You get the confirmation as a notification, by email and in **Notifications**, then reminders 24 h and 2 h before pickup. See the [notification catalogue](https://docs.drivego.thesuperplatform.com/en/reference/notifications).
- Online card payment is not available yet. You pay the agency, which records the payment and the deposit. See [Invoices and payments](https://docs.drivego.thesuperplatform.com/en/guides/customer/invoices).
- On the day, an agency employee meets you at the chosen place, inspects the car with you and photographs it before handing over the keys.

## Troubleshooting

| Message shown | What is happening | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "This car is no longer available for those dates. Pick other dates or another car." | Someone booked these dates while you were filling in, or the agency blocked the car. | Go back to step 1 and change the dates, or choose another car. |
| "The agency has no price for this duration yet. Try another duration." | The agency has no price for this duration. DriveGo never shows a price of zero. | Shorten or lengthen the rental, or choose another car. |
| "Those dates were just booked. Pick other dates." | Two bookings arrived at the same time; only one can go through. | Choose other dates. No booking was created in your name. |
| "No connection. Check your network." | Confirmation needs a connection. | Reconnect, then tap **Confirm booking** again. No duplicate booking is created. |
| **Continue** stays greyed out | A required field is missing, or the return is before the pickup. | Read the reason shown and fix the flagged field. |
