# How the price is calculated

> How DriveGo calculates a rental price: the most specific price wins, weekly and monthly prices, discounts, insurance, extras, taxes and deposit, with examples in MAD.

Every price shown in DriveGo is calculated the same way, for a guest as for a signed-in customer. It happens in two stages: find **the** agency price that applies to your request, then build the price breakdown line by line. The price is then frozen in your booking when you confirm.

> The prices, discounts and rates on this page only show how the calculation works. They are not any real agency's prices.

## 1. The days charged

The duration is counted in whole days: one day for each 24 hours started, with a minimum of one day.

| Pickup | Return | Actual duration | Days charged |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 Nov at 10:00 | 5 Nov at 10:00 | 72 h | 3 |
| 2 Nov at 10:00 | 5 Nov at 10:30 | 72 h 30 | 4 |
| 2 Nov at 10:00 | 2 Nov at 18:00 | 8 h | 1 |

## 2. The prices that can apply

The agency creates its prices in [Pricing rules](https://docs.drivego.thesuperplatform.com/en/guides/agency/pricing-rules). A price counts for your request when all of this is true:

| Condition | In plain words |
|---|---|
| Active | The agency has not switched the price off. |
| Right agency | The price belongs to the car's agency or to its branch. |
| Valid dates | Your pickup date is within the price's period. A blank date does not limit. |
| Duration | The days charged fall within the price's range (for example 1 to 3 days). With no maximum, the range is open. |
| City | The price targets no city, or the pickup city. |
| Amount | The daily price is above zero. |

## 3. The most specific price wins

Among the prices that can apply, DriveGo keeps the most specific one, in this order:

| Order | Price | Example |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Negotiated price for **your company**, on **this car** | A price reserved for Atlas Logistics SARL on one car |
| 2 | Negotiated price for **your company**, on **the car's category** | A price reserved for Atlas Logistics SARL on all SUVs |
| 3 | **Company** price, on **this car** | A price for all companies on one car |
| 4 | **Company** price, on **the category** | A price for all companies on a category |
| 5 | **Individual** price, on **this car** | The public price of one car |
| 6 | **Individual** price, on **the category** | The public price of a category |
| 7 | The agency's **base price** | The price used when nothing more specific exists |

- An **individual customer** (or a guest) can only get prices 5, 6 and 7.
- A **company customer** can get all prices. A negotiated price only applies to the company it names. If no company price matches, the company gets the individual price.
- **When two prices are equally specific**, the one the agency gave the higher priority wins; with the same priority, the most recently created one wins.
- **If no price matches**, no price is calculated and the app shows "The agency has no price for this duration yet. Try another duration." A price is never replaced by zero, and a car with no price at all does not appear in search.

## 4. The base price

| Situation | Base price |
|---|---|
| 30 days or more, and the price has a monthly amount | monthly amount × days ÷ 30 |
| 7 days or more, and the price has a weekly amount | weekly amount × days ÷ 7 |
| Otherwise | daily amount × days |

## 5. The discount

A price can carry a discount percentage, applied to the base price. On a company price (order 1 to 4) it shows as **Company discount**; on the others, as **Duration discount**.

**Net rental** = base price minus the discount.

## 6. From the rental to the total

| Breakdown line | Calculation |
|---|---|
| Rental | base price |
| Duration discount or Company discount | base price × percentage ÷ 100 |
| Insurance | included cover + the upgrade chosen, see [Insurance](https://docs.drivego.thesuperplatform.com/en/reference/insurance) |
| Extras | additional driver, GPS, child seat, roadside: rate × days if the extra is per day, rate once if it is per booking |
| Taxes and fees | (net rental + insurance + extras) × agency tax rate ÷ 100 |
| **Total** | net rental + insurance + extras + taxes |
| Deposit (refundable) | the car's deposit amount, shown **below** the total |

Extras add up; insurance upgrades replace each other. All amounts are rounded to the cent and stay in the agency's currency.

The **deposit** is held at pickup and returned at the end. It is not the agency's revenue and never enters the total.

## 7. The price is frozen

When you confirm, the full price breakdown is saved with your booking. If the agency later changes its prices, your booking amount does not change. The agency can see which price was applied; customers see their price breakdown.

## Worked examples

### Example 1: a company with a negotiated price

An agency's SUV has three prices, with no discount, valid for 3 days:

| Price | For whom | On what | Daily price | Order |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A | Company X only | This car | MAD 400.00 | 1 |
| B | All companies | This car | MAD 450.00 | 3 |
| C | Everyone | Base price | MAD 500.00 | 7 |

| Customer | Possible prices | Price kept | Base price for 3 days |
|---|---|---|---|
| Company X | A, B and C | A | MAD 400.00 × 3 = MAD 1200.00 |
| Another company | B and C (A does not apply to it) | B | MAD 450.00 × 3 = MAD 1350.00 |
| An individual | C only | C | MAD 500.00 × 3 = MAD 1500.00 |

If price B carried a 5 % discount, the other company would see: Rental MAD 1350.00, Company discount - MAD 67.50, net rental MAD 1282.50.

### Example 2: a category price for an individual

An Economy car has two prices: "individuals, Economy category, MAD 250.00 per day" and the agency's base price at MAD 300.00 per day. No price targets this particular car.

For 2 days, the category price wins: MAD 250.00 × 2 = **MAD 500.00**. The base price is only used when there is no category price.

### Example 3: two equally specific prices

Two individual prices for the same category: D at MAD 260.00 per day, priority 0; E at MAD 240.00 per day, priority 10.

For 4 days, E wins thanks to its priority: MAD 240.00 × 4 = **MAD 960.00**. With equal priority, the most recently created price would have won.

### Example 4: 10 days with a weekly price, full breakdown

Individual category price, range 8 to 30 days: MAD 250.00 per day, MAD 1400.00 per week, 10 % discount. The agency applies 20 % tax and a MAD 3000.00 deposit. The customer chooses Premium insurance at MAD 40.00 per day (basic insurance included at MAD 0.00), GPS at MAD 15.00 per day and a child seat at MAD 100.00 per booking.

| Line | Calculation | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Rental | 10 days, weekly price: MAD 1400.00 × 10 ÷ 7 | MAD 2000.00 |
| Duration discount | MAD 2000.00 × 10 % | - MAD 200.00 |
| Insurance (Basic, included) | included | MAD 0.00 |
| Insurance upgrade (Premium) | MAD 40.00 × 10 | MAD 400.00 |
| Extras (GPS) | MAD 15.00 × 10 | MAD 150.00 |
| Extras (Child seat) | once | MAD 100.00 |
| Taxes and fees | (MAD 1800.00 + MAD 400.00 + MAD 150.00 + MAD 100.00) × 20 % = MAD 2450.00 × 20 % | MAD 490.00 |
| **Total** | MAD 2450.00 + MAD 490.00 | **MAD 2940.00** |
| Deposit (refundable) | outside the total | MAD 3000.00 |

The daily price of MAD 250.00 is not used: from 7 days, the weekly price replaces it.

### Example 5: 31 days with a monthly price

Individual price for one car, from 31 days with no maximum: MAD 220.00 per day, MAD 1300.00 per week, MAD 5400.00 per month, no discount.

31 days, monthly price: MAD 5400.00 × 31 ÷ 30 = **MAD 5580.00**. The monthly price wins over the weekly price.

### Example 6: a duration range that rules a price out

A car has two individual category prices: 1 to 3 days at MAD 300.00 per day, 4 to 7 days at MAD 270.00 per day.

| Duration | Price kept | Base price |
|---|---|---|
| 3 days | 1 to 3 days | MAD 300.00 × 3 = MAD 900.00 |
| 5 days | 4 to 7 days | MAD 270.00 × 5 = MAD 1350.00 |
| 9 days | none, and no base price | "The agency has no price for this duration yet. Try another duration." |

To cover long rentals, the agency adds a range (for example 8 to 30 days) or a base price with no maximum.

## For the agency

In the quote, the agency sees which price was kept, which helps it explain a price to a customer. Prices are managed in [Pricing rules](https://docs.drivego.thesuperplatform.com/en/guides/agency/pricing-rules).
