Offline mode

What works in DriveGo without a network, what waits for the connection, what is disabled, and how to follow what you sent in the Sync centre screen.

An employee often inspects a car in an underground car park, without signal. DriveGo then keeps all the work on the phone and sends it as soon as the connection returns, only once. The step-by-step guide is in Working offline.

What works without a network

You want toWithout a network
Open the appYes, if you have opened it once before on this device.
See your pickupsYes. The details of each task are kept as soon as the list loads with a network.
Fill in the preparation, the inspection, a damage report, an accident reportYes. Everything is saved on the phone.
Take photos and videosYes. They are kept on the phone until they are sent.
Move a pickup forward (on the way, arrived, completed)Yes. The step is sent as soon as the network returns.
See a booking, a car or the map you already openedYes, in their last version, with "Last updated" and the time.
Search for a carOnly results you looked at recently.
Book, cancel, pay, charge damageNo. These actions need an immediate confirmation.

What you see

  • When the network drops, an orange banner shows: "Offline mode: your changes will sync."
  • When you send a form without a network, the app shows "Saved, it will sync." and you move to the next task.
  • The banner shows how many items are waiting, for example "3 items waiting to sync", with a View link.
  • A button disabled offline shows: "Not available offline: this action needs a connection so the agency can confirm it."

The app never shows an endless loading spinner waiting for a network that is not there, and never loses something you sent without telling you.

Nothing is lost

  • Each field form is saved on the phone at every change. Closing the app or running out of battery loses nothing.
  • A photo is saved on the phone the moment you take it, at a smaller size so it sends faster. The time and location are kept with it when available.
  • A video must last 60 seconds at most and weigh 50 MB at most.

When things are sent again

Waiting items are sent automatically:

  • as soon as the phone gets a network back;
  • when you reopen the app;
  • when you tap Try again or Try all again in the Sync centre screen.

They go in the order you entered them: photos and videos first, then the form they belong to.

No duplicates

If you tap Send twice, or if the connection drops in the middle of sending, DriveGo recognises what has already been received. Nothing is created twice. If an item had already been received, the app shows "Already sent: nothing was duplicated." and removes it from the queue.

The Sync centre screen

The Sync centre screen lists what is waiting on the device:

InformationExample
Item typePickup inspection, Return inspection, Damage report, Accident report, Pickup step, Checklist, Maintenance
StateWaiting, Sending or Failed
Time entered"Entered 10 minutes ago"
Attempts"2 attempts"
Last errorShown for a failed item
StateWhat it meansWhat to do
WaitingThe item will be sent when the network returns.Nothing: sending is automatic.
SendingThe item is being sent.Wait.
FailedDriveGo refused the item, for example because a field is invalid.Read the last error, fix the draft, then Try again. You can also Remove from queue: the draft stays editable on the device.

A network drop or an expired session does not make an item fail: it stays waiting. When everything has gone, the screen shows "Everything is synced".
