Photos and videos
Take the photos and videos of an inspection, a damage report or an accident: named slots, upload status for each photo, even without signal.
The Photos and videos screen captures the visual evidence: the state of the car at pickup and at return, a damage, an accident. Each photo is first kept on your phone, then sent as soon as the network allows. Nothing is lost if the connection drops during the upload.
Photos and videos screen
| Field | Required | Values or format | Example | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Photo slot | Yes, for the slots the inspection asks for | Front, Rear, Left side, Right side, Interior, Dashboard, Wheels, Odometer, Fuel gauge, Existing damage, New damage | Odometer | Each thumbnail carries the name of what to photograph. Existing damage and new damage accept several photos. |
| Add | No | Button | Tap Add in the "Front" slot | Opens the camera for that slot. The first time, the app explains why it needs the camera and the browser asks for your permission. |
| Retake | No | Button | Blurred odometer photo | Replaces the photo in the slot with a new shot. |
| Remove photo | No | Button | Photo taken by mistake | Removes the photo from the slot. |
| Video | No | Video of 60 seconds at most, 50 MB at most, MP4 format | A full walk around the car in 40 seconds | Adds to the photos when movement helps, for example a noise or a blinking warning light. |
| Thumbnail status | Shown, not editable | Uploading 45%, Waiting for network, Upload failed, Uploaded | Waiting for network | Shows where each photo's upload stands. Tap a failed thumbnail to try again. |
| Number of photos | Shown | Number | 8 photos | The grid title counts the photos taken. |
After you act: each photo is reduced in size on your phone, dated, and located if you allowed location. It goes to DriveGo as soon as the network allows, before the form that uses it (inspection, damage or accident). Once sent, only the people who can see that form can see it, and the copy kept on your phone is deleted.
Steps
- Open Camera in the bottom bar, or tap Add in a slot of a form's photo grid.
- The first time, accept the explanation then allow the camera in the browser's request.
- Take the photo. It appears in its slot, for example "Front" or "Odometer".
- If the photo is blurred, tap Retake. To remove it, tap Remove photo.
- For a video, film 60 seconds at most.
- Follow the status of each thumbnail until Uploaded.
Photo statuses
| Status shown | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Uploading 45% | The photo is being sent; the percentage moves forward. |
| Waiting for network | The photo is kept on your phone and will go when the network returns. |
| Upload failed | The upload did not go through; tap the thumbnail to try again. |
| Uploaded | The photo reached DriveGo. |
What happens next
- The photos are attached to the form with their slot, their time and, when known, their location.
- A photo sent twice after a connection drop is only saved once.
- If you work without signal, everything stays on the phone. See Working offline.
Troubleshooting
| Message or situation | Cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "File too large. Reduce its size and try again." | The file is over the accepted size, usually a video that is too long. | Film a shorter video, 60 seconds at most. |
| No camera preview | Camera access is refused. | Allow the camera for this site in the browser settings, then come back. |
| A thumbnail stays on "Upload failed" | The connection dropped or the upload was refused. | Tap the thumbnail to try again, or open Sync centre. |
| Photos have no location | Location is not allowed or did not answer in time. | Allow location; the photo stays valid without it. |
